Update: Today I ran checkdisk, a complete defragmentation with ooDefrag, as well as a quick malware scan (windows defender) and a quick virus scan (windows security utilities). Fragmentation was pretty bad, so I had hopes... But then just now I ...

Erm... Have you ever been in a big fleetfight with broadcasts coming in every few seconds for minutes at a time? There's a reason most people play with sound: off, listening to the FC is a lot more important than hearing the UI beep at you.
